Though now filled
with first class restaurants and accommodation
Bophut Village has yet to lose the quaint charm
that has made it famous amongst travelers on the
island of Samui in Thailand. While what first
comes to the minds of most holiday goers is the
three kilometers of fine white sand beach and
the spectacular view, including the island of
Phan gan, the most well known and famous part
of Bophut is the Fisherman’s Village, which
occupies a central section of beachfront.
Fisherman's Village has gained a
reputation that reaches far beyond the shores of
Koh Samui and Thailand for being an elegant and
well-preserved part of the Thai village
lifestyle.
One small street lined with
old wooden Chinese shop-houses and interspaced
with a few modern buildings that match the style
and feel it retains a distinctly Mediterranean
feel. In the present this wonderful place is
viewed as two places: Baan Bophut (Baan means
´village´) and the distinctive area of the
Fisherman´s Village.
Located on the
northern side of Samui, Bophut Beach is half way
between The Big Buddha and Maenam Beach. This
area of Samui has a very relaxed and quiet
atmosphere, which is ideal for those wanting to
enjoy a relaxing and peaceful holiday in
paradise. Perhaps the oldest place on the island
it was for many years the main French outpost on
the island and it still has the original and
laid back feel of the Samui that was discovered
by backpackers in the early 1970s.
It is a
strong contrast to the more popular and
westernized Samui resort areas of Chaweng and
Lamai. Popular with diners for its fine European
restaurants, French cafes and Thai Seafood/Grill
restaurants it’s a very family friendly place
loved for its sunsets and complete lack of girly bars.
Just some non girly bars you will find here like
the:
Mosquito Bar Located in the heart of Fisherman's village this unique up scale bar offers a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Lounge in one of the many living areas while enjoying a wide range of drinks and a sporting event.
Mosquito bar has created a beautifuloutdoor
patio garden hidden away in the back. They also have two
wonderful rooms available with all the amenities. If you are
looking for a clean bright room with hot showers, big
comfortable beds and TV-DVD balcony with a Sea View in a
great location, then this is the place for you.

While the three kilometer long
beach is simply beautiful and lined with tall
coconut trees it
is also a large administrative and postal
district (Amphong), even encompassing Chaweng.
Therefore an address in Bophut is no guarantee
that it is located in or around the village.
