Night Life in Fishermans Village / BoPhut Beach

Other night-time activities

Bophut isn't exactly humming with nightlife options; in fact if you want to dance the night away, or send the night at a Gogo bar, you are better off heading for nearby Chaweng. It does however have some fun bars and beachside pubs that make for a pleasant evening out and certainly prove highly popular with local Samui residents. Some spots offer 'happy hour' or a free buffet or barbeque meals to accompany your drinks (and of course encourage you to drink more).

Reputation counts here and visitors will find some excellent spots to relax as the sun descends below the horizon. Be it sipping cocktails, guzzling gallons of beer or enjoying a glass of wine your choice here is good and getting better each year as more and more beverage outlets open up.

At the rate the Bophut is expanding, it won't be long before a nightclub opens its doors however. We'll keep you posted on this when it happens. Please note that bars and clubs close at 2.00am - so try and make the most of your evenings. If you're still not ready for bed and want to party through the night, all is not lost - just head for one of the beach parties, nearby.

Beatles Bar Located in an old teak shop-house, close to the pier, this bar takes one back to the 60's era. Background Beatles or jazz music played at just the right level - so as not to disturb any conversation - helps one relax as you sip cocktails or dine on good snack food. The staff here are friendly and the atmosphere perfect for a little time out from the beach.

Gecko Village A very pleasant beachside setting enhances one of Samui's most musically astute bars. Resident DJ Gary G plays an eclectic range of house and ambient tunes throughout the week and hosts the Gecko's weekly Sunday Session party, which kicks off at 2pm and regularly features big name guest DJ's and live percussionists. There's also a Full Moon Warm Up Party and the resort has its own speedboat to get revellers over to Ko Pha Ngan afterwards. The Gecko has bungalows for rent - but they can get very noisy on party nights. Open 8am - 2am

The Billabong Surf Club ensures that it fulfils all the rules of any good Aussie pub: lots of sport on TV, free flowing beer - including VB, a suitably rowdy atmosphere and plenty of pies to eat. It's also the official clubhouse of the Samui Simians Rugby Club, so anyone looking for a game or just wanting to talk about one, can contact the Simians there. There are also a couple of sea view rooms for rent upstairs.
Fisherman's Village, Bophut, Tel 077 430 144. Open 8am - 2am

Frog and Gecko Owned and managed by long-term expats Graeme and Raphaella, who work hard to ensure everyone enjoys themselves. It's busy most nights, but packed on Wednesdays for their pub quiz - so get there early to ensure a seat. Musically, expect lots of quality 70's tunes, Brit Pop, rock and punk. The Thai food and Indian curries are highly recommended. Fisherman's Village, Bophut Open 11am - 2am.

Please be Warned

If you’re thinking of travelling from one beach to the next for a night out, such as riding a bike to Lamai from Chaweng, or travelling south from the Northern beaches, plan on using a taxi. They’ll bargain for higher rates at night but the number of road accidents on the hilly roads and proliferation of drunken local drivers will make you think twice about using your rented scooter.
