Other Night Lifeon Samui

Other night-time activities

Nathon While nightlife in Nathon is limited to the 7‑11 and a few karaoke bars, there is an excellent seafood restaurant just north of the community center on the oceanfront road. The sign is all in Thai, but you can spot it by the big Singha sign and the tables populated by Samui's movers and shakers who often gather for business and pleasure with their mobile phones at the ready.

Hua Thanon
At the ninety degree turn just south of Lamai is the Muslim fishing village of Hua Thamon. There are a few new restaurants on the main road (one of which is open into the wee hours for hungry revelers) but the main attraction is the artistry of the local fisherman. Their intricately painted boats dock just off-shore from their thriving market. The beach is not good for swimming but a beach stroll offers a glimpse into the lifeblood of one of Samui's main economic activities.

Lipa Noi
Just south of Nathon is one of the best places to catch the sunset. There are a couple of good bungalows on Lipa Noi and a nice seafood restaurant called Big John's. But the real wonder of Lipa Noi is the shallow water. You can wade out for two hundred meters and the water is no more than waist deep. The velvety feel of the ocean bottom here attracts local children as well as visitors in the late afternoons.

Please be Warned

If you’re thinking of travelling from one beach to the next for a night out, such as riding a bike to Lamai from Chaweng, or travelling south from the Northern beaches, plan on using a taxi. They’ll bargain for higher rates at night but the number of road accidents on the hilly roads and proliferation of drunken local drivers will make you think twice about using your rented scooter.
