Chaweng Beach

Chaweng beach covers a large portion of the island's northeast coast and is with it's 7 km the longest beach on Samui as well as the most popular one. Chaweng has the largest tourist centre and several hotels, ranging from budget to 5 Star luxury resorts line up the shore. Roughly 2 km away from the airport, Chaweng has a lot to offer for a beautiful holiday.

The beach itself, while beautiful and clean with soft white sand often suffers from seasonal overcrowding as ever increasing numbers of visitors discover the island. Some months throughout the year (November-February) the waters in Chaweng can occasionally have some big waves. At this time of the year you can watch a young crowd of surfers riding along the shore. The rest of the year the water is shallow and also great for children to play.

Set back 100 m from the sand the one-way beach road in Chaweng has developed into a bustling town packed with lot's of restaurants, shops, bars and clubs. It offers just about everything for Food Lovers, whether it be Thai or Western and you can find some excellent seafood restaurants as well as the popular fast food chains.


It gets ultra busy on the beach road at night with a crazy and colorful mix of pedestrians, katoey's, taxis, motorbikes and small truck taxis (Song Taew) carrying the people up and down the village. The beach road is lined with dozens of different stalls and shops. The range of items offered is huge and you will find clothing, Music & DVD, electronic items, tailor shops, art and wood carving as well as lot's of souvenir shops.

There is plenty of nightlife with lot's of chic bars, colorful cabaret shows, thrilling Muay Thai fights and bustling clubs to dance the night away. More information you will find under the section "Nightlife".





Despite of all the activity, Chaweng still maintains the classic image of a palm-fringed tropical beach.
